The BRTCCS is a diverse group of people who gather regularly to explore the benefits of the art of Tai Chi Chuan in Logan, Utah. The Tai Chi we practice is the Yang Style as developed through Yang Cheng-fu's disciple Professor Cheng Man-ch'ing and Professor Cheng's senior student Benjamin Lo Pang Jeng. We have been active now in Cache Valley Utah for nearly twenty years.
Before we begin our journey into the form, its dozens of postures and transitions it is useful to prepare. Thus the posture "Preparation. Li Yaxuan, senior disciple of Yang Cheng-fu offered this advice in a speech he gave in 1956. The entire speech has been reprinted in Qi Magazine and is available online.
"Prior to producing momentum the body gesture should be stable and the balance completely centered. The mind and body should be relaxed. There should be no hesitation, no rigidity. Remove all distracting thoughts from the mind and allow the body gesture to return to the state of being natural. With this you can start to move."
It recently occurred to me that preparation posture reviews the five principles prior to the startup of the form. Probably evident to most of you, but I enjoyed the realization.
